What Is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is not a dermal filler. It is a biostimulator that gradually revitalises the skin by encouraging the body to produce its own collagen. The Science Behind Sculptra®

The active ingredient in Sculptra® is poly L lactic acid (PLLA), a plant-based compound used safely in medicine for decades. The form used in Sculptra®, known as PLLA SCA, is uniquely designed to stimulate collagen at a deep level while being safely absorbed by the body over time.

What happens at your Sculptra appointment

Consultation (30 minutes, £50). We discuss your concerns, medical history and any previous treatments, and I assess whether Sculptra is suitable for you.
Your plan. If Sculptra is suitable, I'll explain how many sessions and vials I recommend and the total cost before you decide.
Treatment. Your appointment is booked and every session lasts between 45mins to an hour.
Further sessions. A course is usually two to three sessions six to eight weeks apart.
Follow-up. I will review you as your treatment progresses and after the last treatment.

Results and how long they last

Sculptra works gradually. Any fullness straight after treatment is mainly from the liquid used to prepare it, which is absorbed within a few days. Results then develop over the following months as new collagen forms.

According to Galderma, results can last up to 25 months after the last treatment, based on an average of three treatments. Individual results vary.

Aftercare, side effects and suitability

You'll be given written aftercare instructions after your treatment.

The most common side effects are swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising at the injection sites, which usually settle within days. Less commonly, small lumps can form under the skin. These are discussed in full at your consultation.

Sculptra isn't suitable if you're allergic to any of its ingredients or have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area. It isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and extra care is needed if you have a history of keloid or raised scarring. Your full medical history is reviewed at consultation.
